Asian Food By: xxx Thailand: Thailand is grouped with Southeast Asia cuisines. Thai food is usually prepared stir-fried, steamed, or grilled over charcoal, however, ultimately the wok dominates the kitchen. Thai food has been described to have the consistency of Chinese food, the spiciness of Mexican food, the lusciousness of Polynesian and the extract flavors of none of the above. The original home of the Tai tribes existed in the mountain valleys of southwestern China, and when these tribes emigrated to their present home of Thailand, the abundance of tropical plants, game, fish and spices shaped their cuisine culture. Specific dynasties dedicated a large effort toward good food. The area outlined by mountains was segregated from the rest of the Chinese. Their food became more distinguished and the bordering Indian Buddhist missionaries introduced spices and herbs. Common cuisine foods include peppercorn, garlic, green onions, ginger, dried tangerine, rice, millet, sugar, potatoes, freshwater fish carp, nuts, and cashews. The Chinese regard food very highly and all men take pride in the art of cooking. Except in France, no where in the world has cooking reached such heights of perfection. The Chinese commonly only eat a morning and evening meal. As a rule, there is no dessert except for special occasions. On the table, the dishes appear in order as cooked. In fact, soup will arrive in the middle or towards the end of the meal to wash down the rice. The rice is in a separate bowl and is eaten throughout the meal. Failure to eat all the rice is wasteful and an insult to the cook. During a Chinese banquet, the rice is served at the end as a nice gesture. However, the rice is not eaten, but signifies the abundance of food provided by the host. Japanese: Japanese cuisine is world-renowned for its meticulous preparation and extreme refinement in presentation. The islands are mainly mountains which allow little land for agriculture.
